Large groups welcome (up to 30, including Stag and Hen parties) The Rock House Estate is about 100-acres, with five holiday homes ranging from a large family farmhouse for fourteen to a cosy nook for two. Set at approximately 450m above sea level they all enjoy exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The estate has its own enclosed woodland and a children’s adventure playground opposite Rock House Farm.
The North Pennines, around Alston are classifed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is still relatively undiscovered and is ideal for country pursuits without the crowds. Visit the nearby lead mines, the steam railway at the market town of Alston (location for ’Oliver Twist’), Hadrian’s Wall and the scenic Settle to Carlisle railway.
It is a central point - Carlisle, Durham and the Lakes are all within an hour’s drive. For the more energetic there’s the C2C cycle track, fell walking in the Pennines and along the Pennine Way, and horse riding nearby, as well as many other winter and summer sporting facilities. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
80158, 80159 and 80160 are in close proximity to one another and can sleep up to 12 guests when booked together; 18995 and 80161 are a short walking distance away and can sleep a further 4 and 14 guests respectively. Large groups welcome (up to 34, including Stag and Hen parties) This converted detached barn is built into the hillside, affording open plan living space on 3 levels, accessible by two doors. The cottage is accessed from a quiet local road then down a private tarmac road.
Ground floor: Dining room/kitchen. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. First floor: Galleried living room with double sofa bed (for alternative sleeping). Second floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin with additional single (cot only available if it replaces a single bed). (The dining table can be extended to seat 14 when booked with 80160 and 80159). Multi-fuel burner in living room inc. NSH inc. Freesat TV. Shared guest laundry on site with w/machine, t/dryer and table football. D/washer. |

And of course there are the lakes themselves: glorious Windermere, pretty Derwent Water and beautiful Ullswater are just some of the highlights of our Cumbria and the Lakes cottage holidays.
For the historically minded, Cumbria offers a wealth of Celtic monuments, Roman remains, stately homes and ruined abbeys. Carlisle still has some of its ancient walls standing, as well as a Norman castle, and the western part of Hadrian’s Wall is nearby. Other places of interest include Penrith, with its castle and remarkably unchanged market square; Keswick, which was once the centre of pencil manufacturing; the busy market town of Kendal and Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace
